Oil gives a smooth texture and an appetizing appearance to our dishes ghee offers a distinct taste. Both oils and ghee contain fats that support certain functions in our bodies. It has become a growing concern about which oil is healthier and good for the heart.

Olive oil Versus Desi ghee: Which one is healthier?

Pooja Malhotra has listed some relevant points in her Instagram Reel about desi ghee and olive oil to help us make a wise choice. According to her, desi ghee and olive oil are similar in terms of their calorific value and fat content. However, they differ in fatty acid composition.

Desi ghee or clarified butter consists of medium-chain fatty acids and has a high smoking point. She suggested that desi ghee is a good choice for high-temperature Indian cooking. Clarified butter also contains fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A, D, and K. It has high saturated fat and cholesterol content and is used in moderation.

On the other hand, olive oil is comparatively healthier than other oils due to its monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and Omega 3 content. Olive oil has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also touted as heart-friendly oil as it is plant-based and has zero cholesterol. The nutritionist suggests that olive oil is suitable for low-temperature cooking and salads.

She also emphasized that all fats and oils are rich in calories and should be used wisely.
