The Yoga Day was presided over by Prof. Nilofer Khan, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir
The inaugural function of The Yoga Day was presided over by Prof. Nilofer Khan, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir. In her address, she underscored the significance of observing the Yoga Day and highlighted the importance of Yoga and meditation across various religions. Prof. Khan emphasized that Yoga is not merely a physical practice but a profound discourse that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit.
Drawing attention to the university's historical context, she mentioned that it has been a place where Sufis, Reshis, and Munies have long practiced and promoted meditation and Yoga, fostering harmony and well-being. These practices have transcended religious boundaries, contributing to the holistic development of individuals.
During his keynote titled “Meditation in the Age of Superficiality,” Prof. Mufti Mudasir Farooqi from the Department of English at KU expounded on the transformative power of meditation. He asserted that meditation serves as an antidote to intolerance, fostering a greater understanding and acceptance of diverse perspectives. Furthermore, Prof. Farooqi emphasized that Yoga bestows a discipline upon our spiritual journey, aiding individuals in navigating their path with clarity and purpose.
The event served as a platform to inspire the university community to embrace Yoga and meditation as vital tools for personal growth and well-being. The words of both Prof. Nilofer Khan and Prof. Mufti Mudasir Farooqi resonated with the audience, encouraging them to embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual enlightenment through these ancient practices.
